Dr Yanyao Bao is a Senior Engineer at Pells Consulting.  He brings a rare combination of advanced computational expertise and practical engineering experience to Pells Consulting‘s hydraulic and hydrogeological projects.

He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Chang’an University and Purdue University respectively and completed both a Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Sydney, where his research focused on numerical modelling of multiphase flow in porous media.

Before joining Pells Consulting, Yanyao delivered drainage and water quality design for major infrastructure projects including Sydney Metro and Western Sydney Airport, and led contaminated land investigations, groundwater monitoring programs and hydrogeological assessments across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia.

He is proficient in a wide range of modelling platforms including 2D and 3D hydraulics (CFD), Multiphysics (eg COMSOL, Abaqus, MIDAS GTS NX), spatial mapping, Monte-Carlo analyses and is an accomplished programmer. Yanyao’s combination of rigorous numerical skills and hands-on field experience makes him a valuable contributor to complex investigations where data analysis, modelling and practical judgement must work together.
